FORUM TO FOCUS ON MEDICAL MALPRACTICE REFORM

HARRISBURG, Jan. 15, 2002 – State Sen. Constance H. Williams today announced a forum of Radnor Township’s legislators to examine the issue of medical malpractice reform.

"With the high concentration of physicians and attorneys in the township, the issue is of particular concern here," said Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) "There are doctors who are unable to practice because they can’t obtain malpractice insurance, and that means that the quality of health care in the region is threatened.

"There are committed public servants within the region who have great insight on the issue, and this is a perfect opportunity to take a look at them," Williams said.

The General Assembly is expected to take up the issue when it returns to session on Jan. 22.

The forum will be coordinated by Radnor’s 7th Ward Commissioner Dave Cannan, who is the commission’s liaison to the Radnor Health Board. It will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, in the Windsor Room of the Radnor Memorial Library in Wayne.

The general public is invited to attend and participate.

Expected to join Williams are state Rep. William Adolph, 165th District, state Rep. Thomas Gannon, 161st District; and state Rep. Vitali, 166th District.

Several health and legal professionals representing a variety of positions on the medical malpractice issue will also make brief presentations. The panel will then take questions from the audience.
