WILLIAMS REACTS TO GOVERNOR’S PROPOSED BUDGET

HARRISBURG, March 4, 2003 - - Senator Connie Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today said that Governor Edward G. Rendell has proposed a balanced budget that holds the line on taxes but that tough decisions will have to be made in the coming weeks in order to stoke Pennsylvania’s economic revitalization.

Senator Williams also said that she was encouraged to hear that Governor Rendell wants to work cooperatively with the Legislature to reach consensus.

“Governor Rendell showed competency and leadership as mayor of Philadelphia, and I am confident that his abilities and wisdom will continue to guide him as he works with the Legislature to pass a balanced budget in these difficult times,” Williams said.

“There is certainly a lot of hard work ahead, and we are just beginning the process of passing a budget that will ensure that Pennsylvania has a bright future.”

“I am confident that the Legislature will work with Governor Rendell to take bold initiatives to find creative ways to address property tax reform, revitalize our economy, and ensure that all children in Pennsylvania receive a good education,” Williams said.

“I look forward to hearing the specifics of his proposals later this month.”
