WILLIAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN ANNUAL “TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS AND SONS TO WORK DAY” Sponsors Senate Resolution Declaring April 24, 2003 “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day” in Pennsylvania HARRISBURG, April 23, 2003 – State Senator Connie Williams today announced that she will be participating in the annual “Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day” which is to be held on April 24. Senator Williams will have six “adopted” daughters and sons who will accompany her throughout the day’s events. The six girls and boys are between the ages of 10 and 12. “I think we have a responsibility to introduce children to different employment opportunities so they can start forming ideas about what careers they might want to pursue in the future,” Senator Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) said. “It’s important to involve our children in our lives because it sends a very clear message that we care,” she said. The day will begin with the arrival of the children and their parents at Williams' King of Prussia office. The children will then go on to meet Senator Williams at the Elmwood Zoo in Norristown. The children will then be transported to the King of Prussia Mall where they will listen to a presentation given by Williams and will participate in activities including a “behind the scenes” tour of the mall. The day will wrap-up back at Williams’ district office where the children will have an opportunity to learn about daily legislative and constituent activities that take place there. Each year since 1997, Senator Williams has introduced a "Take our Daughters to Work Day" resolution in the General Assembly. This year is the first year that sons have been included in the day. Williams has been one of the legislature's leading advocates of the event, securing corporate sponsorship and encouraging her colleagues and various state departments and agencies to participate. “Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day” is part of the Ms. Foundation for Women’s campaign to help children achieve their full potential in the home, school, and community and explore future opportunities in the workplace. Williams thanked Comcast of Montgomery County for being the local sponsor of the day’s events. |
