WILLIAMS HOSTS LOWER MERION BOY’S BASKETBALL TEAM IN HARRISBURGHARRISBURG, APRIL 26 – The basketball game between the Lower Merion Boy’s Basketball team and the Governor at the governor’s home was not nearly as tense as the nail biter that resulted in the 2005-2006 PIAA State Class AAA Boy’s Basketball championship title, but according to state Sen. Connie Williams, who hosted the team in Harrisburg Tuesday, it may have been just as memorable. “I am so proud of this local basketball team,” Williams said. “These young men represent what is wonderful in high school sports – talent and a team spirit that never gives up. I don’t think that the Governor stood much of a chance against this talented group when he agreed to shoot hoops with them outside of the governor’s residence, but I think it was fun for everyone.” The Lower Merion High School Aces earned the state title after knocking of a top-ranking opponent in playoffs in Hershey earlier this year. The game kept everyone glued to their seats until the final seconds of play. In the end the Aces capped their win with a 60 to 58 victory against Schenley in a classic final game. For the second consecutive year, the Aces made it to the state finals, and this year the team left as victors. “The team members, coaches, support staff and fan support are all champions because they play fair,” Williams said. “Sports are wonderful activities for young people – both boys and girls. Organized sports gives everyone the opportunity to learn about team work, challenge their abilities and learn what it takes to be good sportsmen and sportswomen. I’d like to thank the Aces for being such wonderful role models. And I’d like to thank them for being my guests in Harrisburg.” |
