TAP 529 RENAMED NOW U

HARRISBURG, APRIL 28 – State Sen. Connie Williams announced that she would make brochures on the nowU program, which essentially represents the renaming of the state's TAP 529 program, available through her district offices.

"The recent changes in the financial markets have begun to affect the availability of the traditional college financing sources, so it is more important than ever for families to start planning early for their child's education," Williams said. "The newly launched nowU promises no-nonsense information about low-cost, tax smart plans for funding higher education. It is certainly worth visiting the nowU Web site and taking a look."

As was TAP 529, nowU is a program offered through the Pennsylvania Treasury Department. According to information provided about the program, families who access nowU can find a variety of resources designed to help families save for college and gain the knowledge they need to move toward making college possible for their children.

For more information on nowU, visit http://www.nowu529.com/ or stop by either of Williams' district offices for a brochure. Williams' offices are located at 700 S. Henderson Road, Suite 100A in King of Prussia and in the Manoa Shopping Center, Suite 39, 1305 W. Chester Pike in Havertown.

In describing the change from TAP 529 to nowU, Treasury notes that the program has a refreshed look and feel. The program offers two 529 college savings plans: The Pennsylvania 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan and the Pennsylvania 529 Investment Plan. Each plan is designed to help families invest today with the potential for growth on their investments to meet the future costs of education.
