VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY EARNS GRANT FOR BEST PRACTICES HARRISBURG, APRIL 30 – State Sen. Connie Williams applauded Villanova University for its stormwater management initiatives, which earned the school a state grant. "It is a testament to the programs offered at Villanova University for it to have qualified as one of Pennsylvania's Stormwater Best Management Practices Demonstration sites," Williams said. "What is being studied today will have a direct impact on Pennsylvania's water resources for years to come. By studying new ways to reduce the impacts of pollution on water resources, as well as reducing the environmental impacts of urbanization and helping to prevent flooding, Villanova University is addressing many of the watershed management issues that impact other parts of Pennsylvania and the country." Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection awarded Villanova a $67,990 grant to monitor the Villanova Urban Stormwater Best Management Practices Demonstration Site in Delaware County. Some of the university's projects include bio-infiltration, pervious pavement, stormwater wetlands and green roofs. The university formed a partnership with DEP to advance the evolving comprehensive stormwater management field and to foster the development of public and private partnerships through research on innovative SWM Best Management Practices, directed studies, technology transfer and education. |
