Connie Williams. “Work-study can be a valuable tool for students who are motivated to accept part-time work during the school year and full-time work during the summer break,” Williams said. “Not only does it provide financial aid to help pay for college education, it also offers students the opportunity to gain work experience.” Pennsylvania’s State Work-Study Program allows students to work in technology or community service positions related to their major or minor for a maximum of 20 hours a week during the academic year and up to 40 hours a week during summer and term breaks. Through the program, PHEAA reimburses nonprofit employers 40 percent and for-profit employers 30 percent of student’s wages. To qualify a student must:
The deadline for submitting a State Work-Study application (awarded as funds permit) is May 15th for the summer term 2006; Oct. 1 for the entire 2006-07 academic year or just the fall term of 2006; and Jan. 15, 2007 for the spring term 2007. Applications received after the deadlines will be considered if resources are available. Williams has obtained a supply of the State Work-Study Times, which provides details on work-study opportunities and will make those available through her offices, which are located in King of Prussia at 700 S. Henderson Rd., Suite 100A and in Havertown in the Manoa Shopping Center, Suite 39, 1305 W. Chester Pike. The publication and a work-study application are available on PHEAA’s Web site at www.pheaa.org. |
