NORRISTOWN TO RECEIVE PARK GRANT

HARRISBURG, May 2, 2003 - - Senator Connie Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today announced that Norristown is slated to receive a park grant under the Community Conservation Partnerships Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Norristown will be the recipient of a $100,000 grant, which will provide for renovations and the further development of Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park.

Plans are underway to renovate and expand the play area at the park, erect a new park entrance sign, and build a new parking area.

New shade trees, flowering trees and plantings will be added to the park. Also, the grant will provide for a new pedestrian entrance plaza, which will greet park visitors.

“I am pleased that Norristown is receiving this park grant which will truly enhance their recreational landscape,” Williams said.

Funding for this project comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93) or the Environmental Stewardship Act Fund (Growing Greener).
