HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP TO RECEIVE $100,000 PARKS GRANT HARRISBURG, May 6, 2003 - - Senator Connie Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) today announced that Haverford Township, Delaware County, is the recipient of a $100,000 community recreation grant under the Community Conservation Partnerships Program of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The grant will enable Haverford Township to acquire three parcels of land totaling approximately three acres in Haverford Township for open space, greenways and recreation. Williams said there are plans to build a neighborhood park on a parcel of land located along Normandy Road. A second project is planned that will connect two parcels of land along Karakung Drive to create a greenway. The third parcel of land will be the home of a gateway garden/pocket park, which will be located on the corner of Darby Road and Westchester Pike. “I am pleased that Haverford Township has received this grant because it will truly enhance the quality of life for the residents.” Funding for these projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93) or the Environmental Stewardship Act Fund (Growing Greener). |
