WILLIAMS INTRODUCES RESOLUTION DECLARING JUNE 21, 2003 “NATIONAL ASK DAY”

HARRISBURG, June 20, 2003 - - Senator Connie Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) this week introduced a resolution to declare June 21, 2003 “National Ask Day” in Pennsylvania.

“The Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Campaign urges parents to ask their neighbors if there is a gun in the neighbor’s house before permitting their child to play there,” said Williams.

Over 40 percent of homes with children have a gun and almost half of those guns are left unlocked or loaded.

The goal of this national campaign is to encourage parents to habitually inquire about the presence of guns in the homes their children visit.

“The ASK Campaign provides a practical opportunity for parents to protect their children from gun violence,” Williams said.

“I hope to have full Senate support for this common sense resolution.”
