RECYCLING GRANTS AWARDED IN DELAWARE COUNTY

HARRISBURG, JUNE 21 – Grants totaling more than $100,000 were awarded in Delaware County to aid recycling programs, state Sen. Connie Williams announced.

“The importance of recycling to the future viability of the environment and the economy cannot be stressed enough,” Williams said. “At its most basic, recycling represents an effort to separate refuse so that certain materials can be broken down and reused. But the end result goes well beyond the rudimentary aspects of recycling. Recycling protects valuable open space by ensuring landfills aren’t used up as quickly. Recycling contributes to industry that is based on new uses for recycled items.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded the following grants in Delaware County:

  • $90,058 to Haverford Township based on the 5,020 tons recycled for calendar year 2004.

  • $24,835 to Delaware County for recycling administration costs.
