FUN AT THE ZOO PLANNED DURING KIDS’ FAIRHARRISBURG, JUNE 30 -- Children and their families in the 17th Senatorial District are invited to attend a free Kids’ Fair from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19 at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown, announced the host, state Sen. Connie Williams. “The Kids’ Fair is a great opportunity for children and their parents to spend a fun evening together,” Williams said. “Children who attend will see clowns, mascots and can have their faces painted. While their children play, parents will have the time to speak with representatives of state, federal and local agencies about a variety of topics.” “I’ve planned the evening with families in mind,” Williams added. Expected to make a guest appearance are McGruff the Crime Dog, RSVP clowns and Buzzbee B101’s mascot. King of Prussia will have a fire truck and the Pennsylvania State Police will have motorcycles at the zoo. Police departments that will be on hand include Haverford, Narberth, Plymouth Township, Upper Merion, and Radnor Township. Norristown Borough Council is providing an Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Riverbend will be on hand to offer a free interactive activity geared to environmental awareness, while several libraries will provide a story time. The Norristown Lodge 620 will provide a free child identification program, which includes videotaping and voice recording, as well as a DNA kit that parents can take home. To take advantage of the program, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents will have the opportunity to sign-up their children for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Admission to the event is free to all children and families in the 17th District, but is limited to 1,500. Tickets, which will be mailed, are required for admission the evening of the event.
