NARBERTH RECEIVES STATE FUNDS FOR RECYCLING EFFORTSHARRISBURG, JULY 6 – State Sen. Connie Williams thanked Narberth residents and businesses for doing their part to recycle as she announced a state grant had been awarded. “Recycling not only provides the opportunity to reuse resources, but it extends the life of landfills in Pennsylvania,” Williams said. “With each metal or aluminum can or glass bottle that is separated from regular trash, people are adding years of use to landfills and ensuring that Pennsylvania won’t need to use more land for landfilling purposes for many years to come.” Narberth received an $11,348 grant under the state’s Recycling Performance Grant Program. The grant was based on the 541 tons recycled in the borough in 2004 and on the municipality’s population. Grants are awarded to communities as incentives to increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling and to promote economic growth in Pennsylvania through job creation and market expansion. The Department of Environmental Protection awards performance grants in addition to allocating money to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs. |
