GRANT AWARDED TO UPPER MERION SR. SERVICE CENTERHARRISBURG, JULY 7 – State Sen. Connie Williams today presented a $10,000 check to the Upper Merion Senior Service Center to support the purchase of equipment directly beneficial to center members. Williams said she was thrilled to present the funds from the Department of Community and Economic Development. “These grant funds are going to turn ideas into reality and allow this center to continue to grow,” Williams said. “I am so proud of the accomplishments already achieved at the Upper Merion Center and continue to enjoy learning about the programs it offers – these seniors are active and energetic.” Approximately 1,600 adults use the center each week, taking part in a variety of programs ranging from computer club to garden club, craft classes and a weekly dance party. The center opened in 1997. The state funds will be used to purchase furniture and additional equipment for the computer room and kitchen. During the check presentation, Williams lauded the center and its members for their active involvement. “This group continues to be active, vibrant and still have a great deal to contribute to their community,” Williams said. |
