EISENHOWER MIDDLE SCHOOL RECEIVES NATIONAL GRANTHARRISBURG, JULY 13 – Safety is no accident, state Sen. Connie Williams noted in congratulating Eisenhower Middle School in the Norristown School District for successfully competing for one of 10 Be Safe and Sound campaign grants recently awarded to schools in Pennsylvania. “The fact that the school was selected is a credit to local efforts to keep students safe and speaks to the commitment the district has made to parent and community involvement,” Williams said. “Safety and security are critical to supporting a school environment that promotes learning. The Safe and Sound campaign was instituted to raise awareness to school safety and security issues and provides concrete measures that parents, community members and educators can take to make schools safer and more secure.” The Be Safe and Sound national initiative was tested in two pilot states, including Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The program promotes a comprehensive approach to school safety and security that addresses both physical and climate issues, while empowering educator, parents and community members to be part of the solution. In all 35 Pennsylvania schools applied for one of 10 $7,000 grants. The grants were funded by The Allstate Foundation as an extension of The Allstate Foundation’s ongoing support of the Be Safe and Sound initiative, a program of the National Crime Prevention Council, conducted in collaboration with National PTA and also supported by the ASSA ABLOY Group and the Security Industry Association. Publications and a database of school safety and security resources are available online at the National Crime Prevention’s Web site at www.ncpc.org/besafe. |
