BRIDGEPORT AWARDED TWO STATE GRANTS

HARRISBURG, JULY 14 – State Sen. Connie Williams attended a meeting of Bridgeport borough council last night to deliver a message worth $60,000.

Williams, who was on hand to present checks representing two grants from the state Department of Community and Economic Development, noted the programs being funded were important to residents and to the overall safety of the community.

A $10,000 check was awarded to support the Rambler, which provides free rides to seniors with PennDOT passes during off-peak hours.

“The Rambler is an especially great program for seniors,” Williams said. “This state funding will help the service to continue. The service provides not only convenience, but allows older adults a greater level of independence.”

The second check, in the amount of $50,000, was earmarked to fund a back-up power system for borough hall.

“This borough hall is a hub for the community, housing the police department and administration,” Williams said. “It is critical that the borough be able to ensure power is available, especially during an emergency situation.”

The recently adopted Emergency Operations Plan relies on the borough’s ability to implement required procedures, which would include accessing and using the borough hall.

“With a back-up power source, the community will be able to effectively deal with emergencies and eliminate any interruption in its ability to fully respond to the needs of Bridgeport residents,” Williams said.
