GRANT AWARDED FOR HANDS-ON ECOLOGICAL PROGRAM

HARRISBURG, Aug. 5 – Students that learn by doing will long remember the lesson, according to state Sen. Connie Williams, who announced a unique hands-on program targeted to high school ecology and art students at Haverford Township School District.

The district was selected to receive a $1,360 state grant for a learning opportunity for some 10th, 11th and 12th graders. The funds will be used to allow high school ecology and art students to learn about integrated pest management through a hands-on experience collecting and analyzing data and making recommendations in an eastern Pennsylvania apple orchard.

“This is a fabulous opportunity for students to gain important knowledge out of the classroom,” Williams said.

The grant was awarded under the Environmental Education Grant Program by the Department of Environmental Protection.
