BOOKLET TO HELP PARENTS GET THEIR CHILD READY FOR HIGHER EDUC. HARRISBURG, AUG. 26 – State Sen. Connie Williams has obtained a limited supply of a new booklet to help parents give their child a good start in school. The booklet is available through her district offices. “Parents are our children’s first and often most important teachers,” Williams said. “The foundation they provide will determine if a child is prepared to start school ready to learn. Fostering a love of reading, encouraging children to do their best and instilling a love of education is the basis for a child’s future success.” Get Ready, Get Set, Get Going Places, a publication of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, is geared to increasing awareness and providing resources for parents of young children. It includes tips for parents to consider beginning in kindergarten. It also includes valuable information about planning and saving for higher education. PHEAA has sent copies of the booklet to Pennsylvania elementary, middle and senior high schools, community organizations, such as YMCA, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, CareerLink and others. To obtain a copy of the booklet, people are asked to stop by either of Williams’ offices, which are located at 700 S. Henderson Road, Suite 100A in King of Prussia and in the Manoa Shopping Center, Suite 39, 1305 W. Chester Pike in Havertown. |
