GRANTS AWARDED IN 17TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

HARRISBURG, AUG. 27 – State Sen. Connie Williams announced the awarding of several state grants aimed at safeguarding the environment and the health of residents.

Grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection were awarded to:

  • Montgomery County -- $532,950 under the Sewage Facilities Enforcement Grants Program to reimburse half the eligible expenses for performing sewage enforcement

  • Montgomery County -- $200,000 to reimburse up to 80 percent of the costs to revise the county's solid waste management plan

  • Conshohocken -- $9,580 under the Recycling Performance Grant Program (based on the 625.8 tons recycled in the borough and a recycling rate of 10.3 for calendar year 2005)

  • West Conshohocken -- $125,390 under the Recycling Performance Grant Program (based on the 1,175.8 tons recycled in the borough and a recycling rate of 101.8 for calendar year 2005)

"I commend the county and the municipalities for doing their part to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for the residents, businesses and visitors to the area," Williams said. "This is a positive investment of state dollars in the environment and the economy of our region."
