KATRINA COLLECTION EFFORTS POSTPONED

HARRISBURG, SEPT. 8 – At the request of the Salvation Army, state Sen. Connie Williams is postponing efforts to collect items to cover the immediate needs of Hurricane Katrina evacuees coming to Philadelphia.

On Wednesday, Williams announced plans to open her two district offices as collection points for people who wanted to donate items for the Hurricane Katrina evacuees. The decision was made to postpone collection efforts after the announcement by city officials that less than 40 people were expected to temporarily locate in the city.

“Should more evacuees begin pouring into the city, I will speak with the Salvation Army to see if my offices can again become a collection point,” Williams said.
