BARNES FOUNDATION RECIPIENT OF PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL AND MUSEUM COMMISSION GRANT

HARRISBURG, September 17, 2002 - - State Senator Connie Williams (D-Delaware/Montgomery) today announced that the Barnes Foundation recently received a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) in the amount of $14,000.

The grant is sponsored by the Pennsylvania History and Museum Grant Program and is to be used for the general operating support of the museum.

"The Barnes Foundation will use this grant money to support critically-needed professional management staff and collections care, including the completion of inventory and catalogue efforts and conservation," Williams said.

Williams said the funding will also support programs and bring scholars and curators to the Foundation.

"I am pleased that this funding will help preserve the wonderful works of art at the Barnes Foundation," Williams said.

In fiscal year 2002-2003, the PHMC awarded $2,691,943 to 79 museums across the state.
