MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHOSEN FOR CONSERVATION GRANT

HARRISBURG, SEPT. 23 – State Sen. Connie Williams is pleased to announce that Montgomery County was selected to receive a state grant to update a plan to preserve the county’s open space.

The county had one of nine projects chosen for the 10th round of grants under the state’s Community Conservation Partnership Program, administered by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

“Montgomery County is taking a wonderful approach to preserving its natural resources and open space,” Williams said. “Ten years ago, the county created that Natural Areas Inventory and used that to identify site-specific priorities and preservation and management strategies. This state grant will allow the county to update that plan and move forward with sound preservation and management decisions.”

The county was selected for a $50,000 grant for the project. The CCPP grants are designed to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, rail and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits for planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. Funding for the projects comes from the Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93) or the Environmental Stewardship Act Fund (Growing Greener).
