HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP OF DELAWARE COUNTY TO RECEIVE DEP RECYCLING GRANT HARRISBURG, September 27, 2002 - - State Senator Connie Williams today announced that a grant was recently awarded to Haverford Township, Delaware County under the Recycling Performance Grant Program. The program is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. The grant of $91,630 is based on the total tons recycled and the municipality’s overall recycling rate for Fiscal Year 2000. "DEP recognizes that conservation does not come cheap to municipal governments, and so, when a municipality recycles as well as Haverford has, their efforts are rewarded," Williams (D-Delaware/Montgomery) said. The grant is in addition to the funds that the Department of Environmental Protection allocates to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs. "The grant will allow Haverford Township to contribute to the statewide goal of recycling 35 percent of all municipal waste by 2003," Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) said. |
