SENATOR WILLIAMS SAYS SATURDAY CLUB TO GET STATE GRANT

HARRISBURG, October 14, 2003 - - A famous local landmark erected at the turn of the century will now be able to afford some needed repairs thanks to a state grant. According to State Senator Connie Williams (D-Montgomery County), The Saturday Club in Radnor Township, has received a $60,000 Keystone Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC).

“Although still beautiful, the years have taken it’s toll on the Saturday Club,” Williams said. “This money should go a long way in helping the building take care of some much needed maintenance.”

Constructed in 1898, The Saturday Club plays host to numerous civic and community functions. Throughout its history the building has been renovated and maintained but early structural problems continue to plague the 105-year-old facility.

“For us to continue to utilize this local treasure major repairs on the outside and inside need to be addressed,” Williams said. “To be one of a handful of projects that receive such a grant shows that they (PHMC) understand the vital role The Saturday Club plays in our community development and recognizance it’s historical significance.”

The Saturday Club grant was one of 31 awarded through the Keystone Grant Program by the PHMC. Over $1.7 million has been awarded to various projects throughout the state for the 2003-2004 fiscal year.
