HISTORIC DISTRICTS DESIGNATED IN RADNOR TOWNSHIP HARRISBURG, NOV. 8 – State Sen. Connie Williams applauded the efforts of Radnor Township and its citizens for recognizing the value in preserving the rich history of the township, which has resulted in a total of three historic district designations. The South Wayne and Louella Court Historic Districts were approved in September by the commission. These additions mark the second and third areas of the township to be preserved. Last year, the township worked to establish the Wayne Historic District. "Being designated an historic district by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is no small undertaking, but is proof of the commitment being paid to preservation efforts in Radnor Township," Williams said. "I am pleased to have played a part in helping the township to gain these historic designations. Through ongoing efforts, the historical and architectural character of this community will be preserved and the past solidly linked to future growth and development." Once an area is designated an historic district, municipalities can have a greater role in preserving the historical integrity of the community by determining the appropriateness of new building, reconstruction, alteration (exterior only), restoration or demolition of properties that can be seen from a public way. Since the Pennsylvania Historic District Act was signed into law in 1961, 120 historic districts across the Commonwealth have been designated. |
