FEDERAL GRANTS AWARDED IN 17TH SENATORIAL DISTRICT

HARRISBURG, NOV. 9 – State Sen. Connie Williams today announced that nearly $150,000 in federal grant dollars were awarded for various conservation, wetland and watershed protection projects.

Grants were awarded under the Federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 to:

  • Delaware Conservation District -- $25,000 for wetlands protection, stormwater management, environmental education and nutrient management, erosion and sedimentation control.

  • Montgomery Conservation District -- $25,000 for wetlands protection, stormwater management, environmental education and nutrient management, erosion and sedimentation control.

  • Villanova University -- $50,000 for a Stormwater Wetlands Monitoring project that will produce field studies monitoring pollutant removal efficiency at the University’s Stormwater Wetland, previously created on campus and to educate individuals and organizations on the effects of urban runoff.

  • Heritage Conservancy, Bucks and Montgomery counties -- $41,400 to develop a conservation plan to improve watershed-related activities; educate the public about watershed issues; and to encourage resource protection and stewardship.

“I commend each of the grant recipients for undertaking the various studies and initiatives, all of which will benefit the water supplies we all enjoy,” Williams said. “What is learned through the various studies will ensure potable water will be available for many years to come.”
