ARDMORE SENIOR CENTER RECEIVES FUNDS FOR COMPUTER TRAINING HARRISBURG, November 13, 2002 - - State Senator Connie Williams (D-Delaware/Montgomery) announced today the Ardmore Senior Center will receive $5,000 from the Department of Community and Economic Development. Williams said the funds will be used to provide hands-on computer training for individuals age 55 and older. "For 26 years, the Ardmore Senior Center has provided our older citizens with the resources they need to remain independent," Williams said. "These funds will continue that tradition by providing them with the necessary skills needed to use a computer efficiently and effectively." Williams pointed to research done by Experience Works Inc., a nonprofit provider of mature and disadvantaged worker employment and training services in Pennsylvania, that shows while 50 percent of Americans own computers, only 24 percent of senior citizens own and use computers. Training at the Ardmore Senior Center will be provided by the center's own computer education center. |
