PENNSYLVANIA HERITAGE GRANT TO AID SCHUYLKILL CORRIDOR HARRISBURG, NOV.13 – State Sen. Connie Williams announced that a $162,000 state grant had been awarded to further develop the Schuylkill River Heritage Corridor. "Pennsylvania has a rich and diverse history that deserves to be protected and celebrated," Williams said. "The Schuylkill River Heritage Corridor is part of the Commonwealth's story. And through the corridor project, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to fully understand and enjoy the story." A grant was recently awarded for the project by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources through its State Heritage Area grant program. The program is administered by DCNR's Bureau of Recreation and Conservation and focuses on building regional partnerships to conserve, enhance and promote the Commonwealth's historical and cultural legacies. "These heritage areas provide a link to our past, as well as a real opportunity to create regional tourism and new economic development opportunities," Williams said. A portion of the grant for the Schuylkill River Heritage Corridor will be used to create a first person interactive Valley Forge Interpretive tour from Philadelphia to Valley Forge. Other aspects of the project touch communities in Pottsville, Lower Providence Township, the East Falls section of Philadelphia, Douglassville and Ashland. |
