WILLIAMS TO ASSUME A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN STATE SENATE

HARRISBURG, NOV. 17 – State Sen. Connie Williams today was appointed by Senate leadership and her Democratic colleagues to serve as Senate Democratic Caucus Administrator for the 2005-06 Legislative Session.

“I am honored by this appointment,” Williams said. “The new position will allow me to assume a larger role in the leadership of the Senate. I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance an agenda that draws upon the values and the needs of the people that I represent and that my colleagues represent.”

Williams also noted that her appointment was indicative of a more forward-thinking caucus and state legislature.

“Since I took office in the House of Representatives in 1997, and was subsequently elected to the Senate in 2001, I’ve been an outspoken advocate for advancing the role of women in society and in government,” Williams said. “Today’s appointment is illustrative of the advances that have been made and are continuing to be made for women. I hope that I will serve as a role model for young women to consider a career in public service. As women, we bring a unique and important perspective to government.”

The position elevates Williams into a leadership role within the caucus, providing her the opportunity to more directly influence the caucus positions on important state issues.

Leadership elections were held during a meeting of the Democratic Caucus in Harrisburg.
