WILLIAMS’ KING OF PRUSSIA OFFICE TO BE DONATION CENTER FOR UPPER MERION SENIOR CENTER HOLIDAY DRIVE Harrisburg, Nov. 19, 2003 – State Sen. Connie Williams, in cooperation with the Upper Merion Senior Center and Montgomery County Children and Youth Office, is collecting holiday gifts and non-perishable food items for three families in the community. “The holidays give us the opportunity to pause and reflect on what really matters to each of us – our families, our friends, our neighbors and our community,” Williams said. “This is a perfect time to think of those whose holiday may not be as warm and full as our own. By picking up an extra gift when you are doing your holiday shopping, or putting a few extra items in your grocery cart as you prepare holiday meals, you will be helping to make a brighter holiday for several local families.” Food donations should be non-perishable, including items such as canned vegetables, fruit, packaged goods, rice, beans, cookies and candies. The Upper Merion Senior Center will provide each family with a supermarket gift certificate so that they may purchase their turkey or ham. “The wonderful thing about this program is that the food donated will likely be sufficient to last these families beyond the holiday season. What a wonderful gift,” Williams said. Holiday gifts should not be wrapped before they are dropped off and should be age appropriate for girls aged 10, 11, 14 and 15 and a boy who is 8. Suggested gifts include winter gloves, hats, scarves, books, games and toiletries for teenaged girls. “Your gift will make the holidays extra special for these families and will allow them the fun of opening presents with their families and later sitting down to warm holiday meal,” Williams said. Items can be dropped of at Williams’ King of Prussia office at 700 S. Henderson Road, Suite 100 A, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at the Upper Merion Senior Center at 650 S. Henderson Road, King of Prussia, weekdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The deadline is Dec. 10.
