RECYCLING GRANTS AWARDED IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

HARRISBURG, NOV. 24 – State Sen. Connie Williams credited residents of West Conshohocken and East Norriton for pitching in to protect the environment, and in the process helping the municipalities to realize state grant funds.

“Everyone who recycles is protecting the environment,” Williams said. “The few extra seconds it takes to properly dispose of cans, glass or plastic, will add years of life to landfills.”

Pennsylvania rewards municipalities for recycling through the Recycling Performance Grant Program. Under the program, the Department of Environmental Protection offers grants based on the total tons recycled and the municipality’s overall recycling rate.

 Grants were recently awarded to:

East Norriton Township -- $77,184 based on total tons recycled in 2002.
West Conshohocken -- $5,327 based on total tons recycled in 2003.
