WILLIAMS NAMED TO BOARD OF KIMMEL CENTER Harrisburg, Dec. 4, 2003-- Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell has named state Sen. Connie Williams to represent the Commonwealth on the board of directors of the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In making the appointment, Rendell noted his confidence in the senator’s ability to represent Pennsylvania with distinction. “I am honored that the governor chose me for this appointment and I look forward to working with the board and the center to continue the endeavors of this wonderful organization,” Williams said. “The presence of the Kimmel Center has invigorated the performing arts in Southeast Pennsylvania and has created a world-class cultural district in Philadelphia.” Kimmel Center Inc. started in 1996, when two projects came together – The Philadelphia Orchestra’s efforts to build a new home and the plan by then Mayor Rendell to provide a venue for Philadelphia’s performing arts companies and for touring presentations. Today the center is located in a new complex on the Avenue of the Arts in Center City, Philadelphia. “This center has provided a wonderful cultural addition to the Philadelphia landscape and has also become a welcome edition to the local economy,” Williams said. “The 2003-2004 season marks the second full season in the beautiful facility and close to 100 events have been planned. This is an exciting time for Kimmel Center and for the residents and visitors to Philadelphia to enjoy local and world-class artists.” |
