WILLIAMS ANNOUNCES GRANT AWARDS FOR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS HARRISBURG, Dec. 10, 2001 – State Sen. Constance H. Williams today announced the Department of Education has awarded four area school districts School Performance Incentive grants. "These awards are based upon a school’s self-improvement," Williams (D-Montgomery/Delaware) said. "In other words, they compete against themselves, and not against other schools. Not only do the grants represent opportunity in the form of funding, they are a tangible symbol of the efforts and achievements these districts have made." The schools are evaluated based upon improvement in students’ Pennsylvania System of School Assessments scores in reading and math. Schools also are awarded funding for maintaining high standards in both categories for a three-year period. |
