DECEMBER 31ST DEADLINE FOR PROPERTY TAX/RENT REBATE APPROACHING
THOUSANDS IN MONTGOMERY/DELAWARE COUNTIES HAVE NOT YET APPLIED

 HARRISBURG, DEC. 4 – State Sen. Connie Williams understands that it may be easy to overlook extra paperwork during the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations, but reminds her constituents that they may not want to overlook the paperwork for the expanded Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, which must be filed by Dec. 31st.

 The program provides rebates ranging from $250 to $650 (depending on income levels) to those who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Pennsylvania resident

  • Aged 65 or older

  • Widow or widower 50 or older

  • Permanently disabled or medically unable to work

  • Homeowners must earn less than $35,000 a year

  • Renters must earn less than $15,000 a year

 "According to recently released figures from the Department of Revenue, $218 million was distributed to over 500,000 homeowners and renters this year (which represents $98 million more than last year), but the department believes at least 200,000 eligible Pennsylvanians may still qualify, but haven't applied," Williams said. "Last year the legislature made significant changes to the rebate program by increasing the income eligibility limits. With these changes, people who had never qualified in the past suddenly became eligible. Even if people never qualified for this rebate program before, they may be eligible for the first time this year."

 As of Oct. 29th, Department of Revenue reported that 7,467 of the estimated 22,084 eligible in Delaware County, and 6,422 of the estimated 22,136 in Montgomery County, have not applied.
